Overview

The Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium (MMHRDC), in collaboration with Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC), invites you to the 9th International Symposium and 16th Annual Scientific Conferencea gathering of researchers, professionals, and students dedicated to advancing health research and innovation.

This year’s event will be held on June 5-6, 2025:

  • Pre-Conference (June 5): Contests will take place at Asian Hospital and Medical Center
  • Main Conference (June 6): Plenary sessions and the awarding ceremony will be hosted at The Palms Country Club Ballroom.

As part of this event, five (5) contests will be conducted to showcase the completed health research projects conducted by the member institutions of MMHRDC:

  1. 3-Minute Pitch to Policy Makers Contest – This competition offers researchers an avenue to effectively communicate their findings to policymakers and stakeholders. Participants will present their completed research in a clear and impactful three-minute pitch using a single slide, ensuring accessibility and relevance to non-specialist audiences in the policy sector.
  2. Health Infomercial Contest – Aimed at combating health disinformation, this contest invites participants to create engaging, evidence-based audio-visual presentations that educate and inform the public. Entries should align with the symposium’s theme and emphasize the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
  3. Photography Contest – This contest challenges participants to capture compelling and thought-provoking images that raise awareness of health, technology, and societal issues. Entries should visually communicate aspects of health promotion, healthcare access, technological advancements, and the broader impact of science on society.
  4. Research Poster Presentation (Professional & Undergraduate Categories) – This competition provides a platform for researchers to visually communicate their studies through a concise and informative research poster. Entries should align with the theme, “Juan Health Research: Bridging Science, Technology, and Society,” and effectively summarize key findings and their relevance to public health and healthcare advancements.
  5. Oral Research Presentation (Professional & Undergraduate Categories) – Designed for researchers to present their scholarly work, this competition highlights impactful health research contributions within the National Capital Region. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their findings, discuss their implications, and engage with the broader health research community.

Awards and Cash Prizes

Winners will be announced during the Closing and Awarding Ceremony on June 6, 2025. The winners will be awarded with certificates of recognition, and the finalists will be provided with certificates of participation. Prizes are non-transferable and may not be exchanged for other alternatives. Below is the award distribution for each category:

1. Oral Research Presentation (Professional & Undergraduate Categories)

Entry Criteria and Eligibility

  1. Categories:
    1. Professional Category
      • A health research project completed within the last three (3) years.
      • A health research paper authored by a researcher from the an MMHRDC member institution.
      • Medical and post-graduate students are classified under this category.
    2. Undergraduate Category
      • An undergraduate thesis on health or health-related fields conducted within the last two (2) years.
      • A health research project conducted by a member institution.
  2. Students, staff, and faculty of current MMHRDC member institutions can submit a maximum of two (2) abstracts per lead author.
  3. Studies already submitted or presented in other forums are still eligible, except for research work/studies that have already won in the previous MMHRDC Symposium and Conference or other DOST-organized conference. 
  4. Published papers and papers submitted for publication or published in a peer-reviewed journal are not eligible for submission.
  5. Research works found to be plagiarized shall be disqualified.

3. 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers

Entry Criteria and Eligibility

  1. Professionals and postgraduate students who are the principal or co-investigator of a completed research (with policy implications), from a member institution, that falls under the scope of the theme and pressing health-related policies can join the 3-Minute Pitch (3MP) to Policymakers Contest.
  2. The contest is exclusively for professionals, but post-graduate students currently pursuing their Master’s or Doctoral studies may join, provided that they also hold professional status in their current MMHRDC member institutions affiliation.
  3. The study must have been completed within the last five (5) years.
  4. Plagiarized and non-original works will be disqualified.

4. Photography Contest

Entry Criteria and Eligibility

  1. Senior high school, college and graduate students, staff, and faculty of current Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium (MMHRDC) member institutions may submit a maximum of two (2) entries.
  2. Entries must have been taken between February 2024 to May 2025 only.
  3. Entries previously submitted to MMHRDC or any other related contests will not be considered.
  4. Plagiarized entries will be automatically disqualified.
    • Images generated by Artificial Intelligence (as a whole or in part) will not be accepted.
    • Light editing/treatment using popular visual graphic design applications such as Adobe Photoshop is allowed. However, any form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) mediated editing will not be allowed.
    • In case of doubt, the contest committee may request the raw files and/or additional proof for the photograph used by the participant.
  5. All shortlisted photographs shall become the property of the Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium. Official submissions grant MMHRDC the right to publish and distribute these photographs.
  6. The royalty of the participant shall not apply when MMHRDC uses the photographs for promotion or management of the Consortium.
  7. Participants shall be given proper credits/acknowledgment when their photos are to be used in Consortium paraphernalia and events.
  8. Entry submission must include a title and a short description of the photograph, limited to 100 words only.

5. Health Infomercial Contest

Entry Criteria and Eligibility

  1. Students, staff, and faculty of current MMHRDC member institutions can only submit a maximum of two (2) entries, but only one (1) entry per institution may be considered as a finalist.
  2. A health-related project/initiative that aligns with the conference theme, conducted within the last three (3) years
  3. The infomercial must be dynamic audio and video movies.
  4. The infomercial must have been produced between February 2024 to May 2025 only. 
  5. Entries exceeding three (3) minutes, inclusive of credit titles, are disqualified.
  6. Due to copyright laws, music used in any entry must be original, licensed, or in the public domain. Refer to https://iclg.com/practice-areas/copyright-laws-and-regulations/philippines for more copyright information, along with the following websites for available materials:

  7. Dialogue can be in any language, foreign or regional, with inclusion of English subtitles for non-English dialogues.
  8. All finalist’s entries shall become the property of the Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium. Official submissions grant MMHRDC the right to publish and distribute these short films/commercials. Participants will be asked to sign a Certificate of Originality and Consent to Publish and Distribute the entries without royalty fees. The royalty of the participant shall not apply when MMHRDC uses the short film/commercial for promotion or management of the Consortium.
